Kitchen Remodel in Woodcreek Neighborhood
Here’s a recent kitchen remodel we completed in WoodCreek neighborhood in Fairfield, Ca. This is the latest project of several for a wonderful repeat client.
We used Kraftmaid semi custom cabinetry including adding a beautiful built in desk. We changed the layout some including centering the sink under the window with some plumbing changes. We altered the pantry closet by removing the pocket door, pantry shelving, and some framing changes to become an alcove for the refrigerator. This included running a dedicated power outlet and flush wall mounted ice maker outlet box. Overall we gained a very good amount of cabinet space by moving the refrigerator allowing extra cabinetry to the side of the stove. By removing all the soffits we also gained nearly 12″ in upper cabinet space everywhere.
We preplanned for low voltage undercabinet LED tape lights throughout, as well as back lighting the glass doors cabinet above the desk. We kept a very clean install by using dimmable drivers mounted in the attic space above avoiding mounting drivers and a bunch of wires inside of cabinets. Nothing but low voltage wiring feeding the LED lights through the wall and hidden under the cabinets. We removed the old recessed fluorescent ceiling light fixture in the kitchen area, a ceiling fan near the old pantry, and installed LED recessed can lights. The recessed fluorescent fixture area needed to be framed in and sheetrocked for a nice flat uniform ceiling.
These semi custom cabinets included lots of drawers (some big ones) in place of the more typical doors in base cabinets. The base cabinet drawers are great for holding a variety of items, both large and small, with easy access to any of it without digging around inside cabinets to get to the pots at the rear of the cabinets. Cookie sheets and baking pans will also stay well organized being able to slide them in on edge right next to the stove. All the doors are cushion close, and the drawers are self closing. Included in the layout is a pullout that contains both a garbage bin and recycle bin. Some drawer organizers included a multi level silverware drawer. We also planned for a large farm sink when setting up the sink base cabinet. The farm sink is a pretty large single bowl sink that will not disappoint for any kitchen task.
Nice large stainless steel over the range exhaust hood with the microwave on a dedicated upper cabinet shelf keeping lots of free counter top space and optimal venting while cooking. We included the matching built in desk cabinetry with filing cabinet drawers, shelves, and back lighted glass upper cabinet. The desk cabinetry is a little lower to facilitate easy use with a chair as you would any typical desk.
The counter tops and desk top are all quartz. Added for style is a travertine tile back splash and a nice mosaic accent strip. All the travertine was presealed prior to grouting with urethane grout. While the travertine may need some additional maintenance sealing in the coming years, it’s a great natural addition to the style in this kitchen.
