Foxboro Vacaville Bathroom Remodel 95687
This is a bathroom remodel in the Foxboro community in Vacaville, Ca we completed in November 2015. It started with a one piece fiberglass shower stall, outdated vanity with cultured marble top, a short soaker tub that took up too much room without the benefit of good water depth, and carpeting in the vanity-tub area. The toilet had been leaking into the laundry ceiling below.
We gutted the bathroom and began making some needed rough changes for some of the new fixtures. The tub plumbing was setup for a rear center drain with a tub mounted faucet. We relocated the drain plumbing and water feed lines for a right side drain and wall mounted faucet. We then installed a Kohler Archer soaker tub, it’s taller than the original tub but still only 19″ threshold to step over while the design still allows for filling as deep as other soaker tubs at 22″ high. We installed a nice Kohler tub faucet with a matching ribbon stream Kohler tub spout.
The fiberglass shower replacement consisted of a Swan solid surface shower pan with a nice Delta dual control shower valve and large rain shower head. The dual control allows for separate volume and temperature controls that many of the new pressure balanced valves don’t, many of the single handle faucet shower faucets give no option for volume control, but only adjust temperature as you turn the handle. The shower was finished with Onyx shower walls and 3/8″ heavy glass pivot framless shower door. Shower walls height is 83″ which allowed the rain shower head to be mounted at approx 6.5 feet high. This will be a nice easy clean, low maintenance shower and the solid surface shower pan eliminates the worry of becoming stained later like the lesser molded shower pans do once the gel coat finish has been worn through by use or abrasive cleaners.
We installed Kraftmaid semi custom vanities with a recycled glass vanity top and Kohler under mount sinks. We installed ribbon stream faucets to match the tub. While in the rough stage we raised the height of the vanity light mounts to allow for the raised height vanity. This gave us additional room for keeping the new 1/4″ polished edge mirrors at 36″ tall.
We installed 12×24 porcelain tile on the floor with urethane grout. We installed a glass mosaic tile at the tub surround that carried over to the vanity integrated backsplash. The glass mosaic tile had some brushed nickel accents in it to match all the brushed nickel fixtures so we used a non sanded grout to avoid scratching and well sealed the grout after it cured. The urethane grout on the floor never needs sealing.
The toilet required some subfloor repairs from the leaking, a new toilet mount flange and we patched up the ceiling below. Installed a new Gerber Ultraflush (pressure assist) toilet that functions very well within the new 1.28 gpf regulations.
