Green Screen Studio Build
A friend doing video marketing asked me to build a green screen studio. It was a fun project considering I’d never done anything like this but with a little research on the basics I designed and built this.
One of the main concerns was that it needed to be something that down the road could be stripped out with minimal impact/repairs needed to the existing office space. We started with a floating floor. Laid dimensional lumber on the floor and attached the stage floor plywood sheets to those.
Furring strips were attached to the existing steel framed walls to allow easier attaching of the 1/8″ lauan plywood sheets as well as only needing to patch the screw holes whenever the studio was returned back to a regular office space. Half sheets of lauan formed the curve between the wall bottom and floor and back and side walls. Where the three corners met on the back bottom was the trickiest. All seams were treated much like sheetrock in that we taped and mudded them to all blend together.
We primed all the surfaces to seal the seam treatments and plywood, painted with regular latex green paint, and final coated with chromakey green for easier video editing.
Worked perfectly….
